Bullying ‘still a big problem’
Bullying is still a major problem in schools and is something that needs to be strictly addressed, one expert has suggested.
Peter Bradley, deputy director of Kidscape, a charity dedicated to preventing bullying and child sexual abuse, commented that bullying among peers is something that poses an ongoing problem for parents and teachers.
His comments came ahead of Anti-Bullying Week 2011, which takes place this week from November 14th to 18th.
"The problem is that a bully will always look for opportunities to take advantage of someone they think is weaker than themselves," Mr Bradley said.
He added that a new range of technology such as smartphones and the internet give different means for bullies to tease other children. Cyber bullying is the newest and biggest threat, he continued.
Anti-Bullying Week has the slogan 'Stop and think – words can hurt' and this year's campaign focuses on tackling verbal bullying.
It encourages children, schools, parents and teachers to stand up to bullies and help to put an end to harm caused.
