An interesting thought and so true. Now not everyone has the advantage, the inclination nor the finance to be able to travel, and some folk quite simply are home birds. But travel without a doubt is educational and life enhancing.
In my case I have never had the desire to go too far afield and with friends in Australia and other fabulous parts of the world I have the perfect opportunity to expand my horizons… finances permitting of course. Sadly I just don’t feel I can be bothered, so what’s wrong with me?
For someone who was travelling to Mexico regularly for many years I seem to have lost the zest for overseas and actually feel more mindful about exploring and re-investigating the UK.
I wonder why?
Maybe because so much of the joy has gone out of travelling these days with increased airport security and generally stress caused by terrorist and world unrest. And how many planes have come to an unsavoury end in the last couple of years? Yeah yeah yeah I know it is still the safest way to travel and there are more risks on our roads so what has happened to me? I especially remember when I visited the Middle East – it took me 6 hours to pass through passport control due to extra security measures. What a nightmare that was, though I fully understand. Better to be safe, than sorry. Was the experience whilst I was there worth it? Yes undoubtedly, but I seem to be restricting my travel these days to bobbing backwards and forwards to Spain from the smaller airports courtesy of Ryanair or Jet2. I thank God that I’m not one of those international businesswomen that’s forever backwards and forwards on a regular basis – what some perceive to be a rich life – in reality is far from glamorous. Airport-hotel, airport-hotel. I don’t think so!
Guess I’m feeling a bit grumpy this morning but when you are ready to go and you miss your flight through no fault of your own, and then have to wait 48 hours and pay again I guess I have the right to be a little irritable.
Have I the desire to go to Kenya on Safari, shopping in Dubai? To walk the streets of Brazil or relax on the beaches of Sri Lanka. No actually, I don’t. But perhaps you do.
So are you thinking of booking your vacation? What words come to mind?
Your travel could be relaxing, invigorating, challenging, rewarding, fascinating, exhausting, entertaining and much more. Then enjoy!
As for me I’m staying still for a while at my home in Spain. Then back to the UK and perhaps somewhere simple like Whitby. Now that sounds appealing.
Fish and chips by the sea. The British love that, don’t they?
