The importance of rest

March 26, 2018

It seems a while since all that snow, and since my last blog it returned with a vengeance, leaving me stranded. Snowed in! But at least in the comfort of my own home.

A trip to Stoke-on-Trent and a stay over with friends cancelled. A little annoying, the snow certainly has been a hindrance. The second attempt to host World Book Day at the local village school failed with the announcement of another snow day. So what do they say? Third time lucky! Yes, indeed they were and hosted the event a few days later. Unfortunately without their author visit, as by then I had sped off to Spain for another event. On that thought I rarely put events on my blog calendar realising it’s not good to broadcast to everyone when you are NOT at home, unless you like to advertise the fact to burglars.

So finally off to Spain I went, and the Spanish weather proved to be equally as annoying as the British. This time I was caught up with strong winds and floods.
Check out this link as it is rather comical. A large waste bin takes drivers by surprise as it takes off down the calle looking somewhat like an over sized Dalek from early Doctor Who days. Fortunately it proved to be more humorous than dangerous, being stopped before it had gone too far.

So what’s the point of all this rambling? None! Just because I can I suppose. That’s the beauty of the written word, it empties the thoughts from our minds. So good to de-clutter!

So what am I thinking now? That stuff happens that’s inconvenient. Get over it. Opportunities may or may not come around again. If you’ve missed something then make the most of your current circumstances. What if you are just meant to be still and rest? Now there’s a thought!
I’ll come back to that in a moment.

It’s good to laugh. Things happen in life that are really not meant to be, but sometimes we just need to see the funny side. The run away bin, no problem as no one was hurt.
Being snowed in, missed an event you were looking forward to? Well does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? If you don’t make the most of those hours they’re completely lost. Gone for good! So the question is, what are you going to do to fill it.

So back to REST. Most of us don’t rest enough. Are you one of those busy people always on the go? But did you know that;-

a) Rest days allow muscles, nerves, bones and connective tissue to re-build.
b) Levels of cortisol, (the stress hormone) decrease while resting allowing alertness, productivity and general health to improve.
c) Rest boosts brain function during which time the mind repairs and develops new connections.
d) Generally the immune system has time to re-boot and repair, leading to a healthy body.

Of course they say, change is as good as a rest and a walk or swim is one of the best things ever.
Whatever, happened to those adult colouring books that everyone seemed to be buying a couple of years ago? Now they are relaxing.
Give yourself some time out. It’s never wasted.
