London Bound

June 29, 2018

Just on my way home from a quick visit to London and the only words that kept circling my mind were,
‘I’m a celebrity, get me out of here.’

Not that I consider myself a celebrity by any means, but it’s a phrase that comes to one’s mind when we find ourselves in situations that we really want to escape.

I used to live in London. I have visited many times over the years on business, but this trip was just too much. People shoulder to shoulder. I don’t think I have ever seen London quite so busy. Actually that’s an understatement, it was horrendous. A ten minute dash across town in a taxi became an hour, bumper to bumper. Sweltering heat making the thought of walking unbearable. Twenty nine degrees apparently, the hottest day this year and really uncomfortable. We Brits are just not used to it. That’s cool in Spain for this time of year, and I should know I have a house there. The difference is the Spanish know how to do things. When we are wandering the streets or trying to do business, they are participating in a hearty lunch. Siesta time maybe! Of course to resume work in the early evening.

That said, it was great to meet some of the members of the Society of Women Writers and Journalists at their summer meeting. Yes, I’m one of them! Meetings followed by afternoon tea, a very British thing, then off to network with a bunch of great actors from the West End. Late afternoon drinks enjoyed by all, before most of them dashed off to their respective productions. Les Miserable, Matilda and Phantom, to mention just a few. These people work so hard, I’ll never say it’s an actor’s life for me.
Producing, now that’s a different story.

So let’s see what transpires from today’s meetings. Lots was discussed but that’s the easy part.

Until we chat again, stay safe in the sun.

Blessings
