Lights, camera, action!

August 28, 2013

Waiting for a cheap flight and then I need to go to Almeria, what again? I’ve just come back. Uhm……but the next visit is business and no little granddaughters in tow, lovely as that was.

So trying not to focus on all the bad news that is coming out of Syria at the moment before I sink into a deep depression I was thinking about the province of Almeria and what has made it famous; – particularly during the 60s and 70s, its great zenith of film making.

The Spaghetti Western birthed there, and of nearly 500 films which have been made in the region (in whole or in part) more than half have been westerns.

A new movie, ‘Six Bullets to Hell’ a co-production between Spain and the USA has just finished filming on the coast and the Almeria Western Film festival takes place in the area of Tabernas in October.

Meanwhile, what I find very exciting and can’t wait to see is the fact that the province is set to take a starring role in a production on the scale of Lawrence of Arabia, when 20th Century Fox productions and British film director Sir Ridley Scott, start filming ‘Exodus,’ later this year. Why my interest? Because I am in the province many times each year, one probably would call it my second home.

The movie which will focus on the life of Moses and his relationship with the pharaoh, Ramesses II, will be a major boost to the local economy with local towns being converted to ancient Egypt. Marble quarries providing the backdrop for the filming. Casting for extras has started, though I certainly won’t be in that queue, ho ho! Hollywood star, Christian Bale is expected to play the leading role of Moses.

It all sounds good. I wonder if Chavos will make the movies one day. I will ask Mel next time I have coffee with him.

I wish!

Meanwhile, lost 61bs at Slimmers World this past couple of weeks, so working towards that Chavos Ball gown. But then how does one think of partying when tuning into the news? There I go again, but I have a bad feeling that the US and British intervention is just going to make the whole thing worse. Considerably worse!

Think I’m depressed, dare I say have a nice day? Chat soon.
