First I want to say thanks to all those kids from the London schools who emailed me recently. It was good to hear from you and I also received some lovely writing, especially from Daniel who was telling me about his holiday in Mexico – swimming with the dolphins and stray crabs. It sounds very interesting Daniel.
I will be back on the London circuit again at the end of February, and then for a couple of weeks in March and April. One thing is for sure, I will be keeping away from the big city when the Olympics start as it will be too crazy busy for me – and I have to admit I’m not the Sporty type. More the Performing Arts type myself, so I am naturally looking forward to the day when we see Chavos on stage. Meanwhile, I have started writing the production with some fellow musicians and it is obviously a huge challenge.
I hope you remember what I said to you on my school visits. Inspiration is a wonderful thing and we all need vision in life. There is a scripture in the Bible which says;- ‘Without vision my people will perish.’ That is so true. Sadly I have met many people who have neither vision nor ambition. With no direction they have become lost and depressed. If you don’t know what you’re meant to do with your life yet, don’t worry. Try different things till you find out. Also life is made up of seasons, nothing lasts forever. We often make career changes at different times of our lives, and I don’t know anyone who has never made a wrong choice. We learn from our mistakes, the secret is not to try and make too many. I never imagined when I was in Year 6 that one day I would be writing books. I have worked with people all my life; elderly, underprivileged and for the past 25 years children. Ergh. Help! That makes me sound s-o-o-o old! Well not really. You are as old as you feel, think and behave. True?
Find out what you are good at and then study and research, practice and rehearse. Don’t give in. Keep on and remember if it was easy everyone would do it. I believe we are all born for a purpose and sadly most people never become what they were born to be. Think about that! Is it because they give in too easily? Shame. ‘If it gets tough, you just get tougher.’
So it will soon be the school holidays and everyone can’t wait-especially the teachers I suspect. Enjoy your Christmas festivities. I have just been to my granddaughters school to see the Christmas play- The Landlord’s Cat. I didn’t know what to expect and wondered how this was going to relate to Christmas. Well it did and was actually a lovely spin on the Nativity story told by, of course the Landlords cat. My little granddaughter looked adorable in her costume as did all the other little participants.
So now I need to think about Christmas shopping and writing those cards. I have to admit I’ve barely started, but I never was one of those organised people who had everything sorted by the end of November. There’s something nice about last minute shopping.
I also think Christmas is one of those times of year when we think about our spirituality and what we believe. We all need something to believe in, something to give us hope. And while you are making your list for Santa remember those people worse off than yourself – kids who most definitely won’t receive a gift this Christmas and many who won’t even get a meal never mind a hot dinner.
We must always be grateful for what we have and do what we can to help others.
