Some critics of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) are alleging that free gifts and handouts were distributed to sway people's decisions at the ballot box, the Christian Science Monitor reports.
However, spokesman for the PRI Cesar Camacho has dismissed the accusations and insisted any criticism is completely unfounded.
"Those who make the claims are trying to hide their own deficiencies and not admit their errors," he commented.
For instance, Mr Camacho suggested that the PRI's opponents lost out because none of them fielded a candidate who was actually from Mexico State.
This, he stated, means they did not know key details relating to the region's people and political environment.
His comments came after Alejandro Schtulmann, research director of Emerging Markets Political Risk Analysis, told Bloomberg that Mexican president Felipe Calderon has become the "big loser" from the recent vote in Mexico State.
