According to Oliver De Schutter, special rapporteur on the right to food, many people in the country are unable to invest in healthy and nutritious meals, Fox News reports.
This, he said, is because its farm and trade policies are not compatible with the "need to support a balanced diet".
Mr De Schutter stated that this is leading to malnutrition in some Mexicans and obesity in others.
Indeed, he warned that nearly three-quarters of people living in Mexico can now be considered obese or overweight.
Mr De Schutter described this as a "paradoxical situation" and called on the government to take action to make healthy food more accessible and affordable to the public.
This comes after the OECD warned that many parts of Mexico are seeing a high level of financial inequality.
