New child literacy scheme ‘to boost school pride’

August 10, 2011

The creation of a new child literacy scheme at Lady Hastings Primary School in Collingham is set to help boost reading rates in the area.

According to local publication the Wetherby News, the new sponsored reading scheme will help to raise funds for new classrooms and a refurbished toilet block at the primary school, with kids also benefitting from a boost to their literacy skills as a result.

"The sponsored read is such a great opportunity for pupils to focus on reading over the summer while helping us raise the money needed for the refurbishment," commented headteacher Briony Robertson.

Ms Robertson added that her thanks go out to all those who have offered their support to the kids in their sponsored reading efforts.

Meanwhile, the Eastbourne Herald recently reported Highfield Junior School in The Hydneye has seen the setting up of the Every Child a Reader project, which has helped more than 250 young people in the area to improve their literacy, maths and learning skills.
