Hurricane Jova, with winds of up to 120mph, is heading towards the western parts of Mexico and is set to hit the country full blast by Tuesday (October 11th), CNN reports.
Shelters and safety precautions have been put in place in preparation for the highly dangerous storm comma which was about 265 miles south-west of the resort town of Manzanillo at 05:00 local time, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
The tropical storm is said to be a Category 3 hurricane, which are described as major hurricanes in the Atlantic or eastern Pacific basins.
Trinidad Lopez, civil protection director in the state of Jalisco, said: "Our main concern is the welfare of the population full stop
"We're doing everything in our power to protect people."
Lopez added that at least 100 shelters were opened for people on Sunday.
