Curiosity

Curiosity

20 April 2012 10:15AM

Day 6 in London and the word ‘curiosity’ comes to mind.  I am on a new road, a new path in life and certainly one cannot say it’s the road to no-where!  My blog on 15 April was tinged with sadness but I took heart from my vision and knowing thatas one door closed in life another opened and things would be ok. Seasons are to be welcomed, even the tough times because it is then, that we mature in character and grow the most.  After I wrote that blog I smiled because within minutes I picked up a magazine and read an article about failure. But what indeed is failure? I quote, ‘the fear of failure is far more debilitating than failure itself and we’re actually stopping ourselves from experiencing the pure, undiluted joy of success.’ You know the adage – you can’t enjoy real pleasure in life unless you have known some pain. Uhm!

This week I have pushed forward making new acquaintances and I believe new friendships. Visiting schools and talking to young people has always been dear to my heart and I gasp at the thought of visiting nearly 300 schools over the past few years to talk about my vision for Chavos. The question is how did I ever find time to do all that with the busy schedule that I already have?  I am no teacher and don’t profess to be so, but I know that my presentations bring something new and fresh to the classroom, and at the very least I believe leave the kids inspired. Sometimes I’m told even the teachers!!!!

Yesterday I visited one of the most quirky schools ever and I say that in the nicest possible way. With its entrance hidden at the end of a snicket – as we say in Yorkshire – having introduced myself over the intercom, I pushed open the heaviest of doors – glad I had eaten my Weetabix – and entered to be greeted by one of the boys from year 6 who dashed off to make me a scrumptious latte. Delightful! The school which looked nothing like a school and which housed its pupils in the neighbouring chapel and the quaintest classrooms in a cottage type building,  had the most endearing qualities. The teachers were all fab and the ambience of the whole place oozed friendship and togetherness. Will I be going back? I most certainly will, in fact I invited myself before I left and thankfully they said yes please!

I hope to hear from some of you kids soon and look forward to my return visit and doing some more creative writing. Or as I say in the business…Chavosing!

Chat soon and tell you more about my amazing London week in my next blog. Dashing off to an important meeting now and guess what? … After lunch, another school.

P.S  Why did I call this blog curiosity… cos I don’t seem to know from one day to the next where I am going or who I’m going to meet and suddenly I’m having fun.

But Butler and Gracie I miss you.

Anna
