An industry source has highlighted how there are all sorts of reasons for parents to choose to send their children to a certain school, not just grades.
Dr Helen Wright, president of the Girls' Schools Association (GSA), pointed out that the development of a strong sense of self, as well as core happiness and confidence in one's own abilities can be just as significant as the marks a pupil achieves.
In her opinion, it does not tend to be the grades a child receives during their early years that makes them who they are as individuals, which is what usually matters most to parents.
"The real argument in favour of single-sex education covers the 'intangibles' about growing up and becoming a confident young adult. This includes all the things it is difficult to measure and quantify," remarked Dr Wright.
A recent Ofsted report noted that girls at single-sex schools are more likely to aim higher than "stereotypically female" careers.
