Children, aren’t they just adorable! I took my little dogs Butler and Gracie for a walk during the weekend showers, this being the third attempt having set off twice and the heavens opened. This time I decided it was tough and we would just have to get wet or shelter under a big tree or something. My little granddaughter was with me and we just so happened to be in a village where I used to live some 24 years ago. Now that makes me sound old doesn’t it? Anyway, passing through a quiet cul-de-sac with a few pretty detached properties I pointed to one that had a For Sale sign in the garden and told her that I once lived there with her mummy, when she was a little girl. My granddaughter asked me who I sold the house to, not that I had the faintest idea after all those years of course, and then she pointed to the sign, and exclaimed. ‘Look Nanny! The For Sale sign is still in the garden. Why didn’t they ever take it down?’ Orrrrrrrrhhhhhh. Bless.
I just adore her and I am looking forward to our holiday, just the two of us, when I return from my Mexico trip. It’s off to Spain we go with a bucket and spade and a …..whatever. And why are the air fares so expensive in the school holidays? It’s disgusting!
I remember the last time that I took her away we had so many magical moments. On one occasion we shared the elevator with a man on his way to the restaurant for an evening meal. By the time we arrived, bearing in mind it was only 3 floors, she had chatted to him, introduced ourselves, and I suppose one might say, orchestrated a date for nanny, because he then proceeded to ask us to join him for dinner, which he happily paid for. I do see the dangers in chatting to strangers of course, and we did discuss this but I had to laugh.
If you want a date go out with your granddaughter.
If you’re wondering what happened next, I didn’t see him again, though we did have some pleasant conversation and exchange business cards.
I did like it when he said I looked too young to be a grandma and he thought I was her mother.
Men…flattery will get you everywhere. Not really!
Chat soon.
Anna
P.S. Go to Mexico in 48 hours so watch this space.
