Mexican government ‘under fire from protesters’

October 18, 2011

Activists have gathered in Mexico City to protest against corporate greed in another of similar protests occurring around the world at present.

The city has experienced around 250 people standing up to the corporate forces in an effort to fight poverty, promote job opportunities and push for more social equality, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Protests started on Saturday (October 15th) and have carried on through the weekend beginning with music and dancing, and evolving into more serious voicing of concerns as messages were relayed to the government.

The demonstrators chanted: "No more blood, no more hunger" with reference to the drug-related crimes which so often grace the streets of the country, recently resulting in the closure of hundreds of schools after teachers were threatened with death if they did not hand over half of their wages to gangs.

Protests surrounding the messages of corporate greed are also occurring in the US and in London, as well as in the financially-stricken Greece.
