Revelation

14 February 2012 12:00AM

Do you ever look back and wonder how you crammed so much into a couple of days? What an interesting and inspirational weekend.

It began with a Friday night meeting followed by a few hours sleep, and then the 6.17 early morning train to London. I had wondered if there may have been problems with the severe weather but it became apparent that other routes had frozen points whilst my Kings Cross Express arrived on time. London was cold, noticeably colder than the North which surprised me, and shivering I hailed one of my favourite London rides and was soon in a toasty warm black cab chatting about the expected mayhem on the city streets during the forthcoming Olympics. I landed at my hotel in time for breakfast. A quick dash around Primark for some gloves and I was off again, this time heading south from Vauxhall in the direction of Strawberry Hill. What a delightful place that sounded, but as I left the train several stops prior, I didn’t find out! I was heading for the Revelation TV studios in New Malden where I was greeted by happy faces and cakes. An abundance of cakes. Having resisted as long as I could, I managed to find some guy who I had never met before but who happily agreed to share cake with me. A rather large inviting and most tempting looking cup-cake it was too and I didn’t feel quite so bad knowing I had only consumed half the calories that it manifested. It was great to meet some of the presenters of what I can honestly describe is one, if not the only Christian channel I find worth watching. With far too many of them promoting this horrendous prosperity teaching and constant appeals for money, they give Christianity a bad name. Celebrating their 9th year of programming it was good to chat with the founders-Howard and Leslie Conder who I had the privilege of spending some time with many years ago when I went on a trip with the channel to the Holy Land. We then took a rather interesting trip across the border to the ancient city of Petra.

What was my purpose going off to share their 9th year celebration? Well that will be revealed in time, let’s just say for now I felt led to go.

Later in the afternoon I headed back to the City to enjoy some of the most delicious tacos at Lupita near the Strand. I have to say… ‘don’t let me ever visit London without going to Lupita.’ The staff are friendly, the management team superb and the filling in those tacos can only be described as a perfect harmony of flavours, added to which I shared a perfect bottle of red wine with a friend.

Ready to hit the sac and get some beauty sleep I returned to my digs which on this occasion just so happened to be The New Cavendish Club, to find a party in full swing. I only bobbed into the bar for a bottle of mineral water and a cold glass of milk…yes milk! But I was soon accosted by several well-dressed gentleman who suggested I skip the milk and go for tequila. Strange seeing I had just eaten Mexican and a shot would have been rather nice but I stayed with the mineral water and forgot about the need for milk when I was introduced to the host, the infamous Lady Sandra Bates – the famous Bunny girl no 7 from the sixties. It became evident that she had arranged an exhibition of art and I later had the privilege of meeting several accomplished artists, one of which confessed to me that he was once an East End villain and had turned to art whilst detained by Her Majesty. He now seemingly spends his time creating the most amazing collages, one of which I would certainly like to purchase when funds allow.

So, what a weekend. I returned to Yorkshire having visited Revelation TV, having been inspired by many things that I had seen and heard, and I even believe I had my own personal revelation about things to come.

I certainly got some revelation on how the other half of society live and on that point, I think it best I say no more.

Chat soon.
