Suspected gang leader held in Mexico

August 9, 2011

A suspected gang leader has been arrested in Mexico by the Federal Police.

Eduardo Sanchez Zuniga is the suspected leader of the Los Cabezas de Puerco (Hog Heads) gang – specialists in extortion and kidnapping in Mexico City.

According to the Secretariat, the gang's members "tossed the heads of hogs outside the businesses or homes to put pressure" on victims.

He was arrested along with four other suspects on Friday (August 5th) in San Vicente Chicoloapan, a small settlement in the Mexico City metropolitan area.

During his arrest, the Federal Police seized a vehicle, a rifle, 20 rounds of ammunition, two handguns, five cellular phones and cash in the operation.

Meanwhile, Mexican hitman Jose Antonio 'El Diego' Acosta Hernandez could be extradited to the US to face punishment for his crimes after admitting to the killing of 1,500 people in the last three years.

The 33-year-old drug trafficker was caught in a shootout in Mexico and had a bounty on his head of $1.2 million (£730,000) at the time.
