Then that’s not silence is it! Oh well, there’s something so soothing about stillness and the gentle passing of time. Just as I love to embrace the sound of the rain whilst chilling in a caravan, something I haven’t done for years!
One of my favourite scriptures in the Bible is; ‘Be still and know that I am God.’ Yes most of us need more quiet time in our lives. Nothing like a day home-alone for reflection and restoration. A few prayers for guidance and wisdom, then off again.
I’m now thinking of days gone by and how quickly we once more find ourselves faced with Christmas. Do you ever feel guilty? Do you ever stop to think about how much you have whilst others so little?
I was reminiscing today and remember in 2003 when I first went to Mexico and how it disturbed me to see the way some of the children lived. I recall having spent my first week on the streets and I had the luxury of hot showers a comfortable bed and abundance of food.
One particular evening I felt so emotional I couldn’t face eating, it was almost a guilty exercise. To which the response of my Mexican companion was, I quote. ‘Your primary concern is to take care of yourself, then you can help others.’
So what do we do at such a time as this? If we are blessed, can we bless someone less fortunate in even a small way?
One thing which we did this year was distribute our ‘Rainbow Gift Boxes’ to pre school children in poor communities.
Working with a few local churches and schools we identified certain families and our boxes went out with Christmas hampers.
Meanwhile, I’m already thinking about 2016 with an ambitious heart. Yes, making my bucket list as I always do. One thing on the agenda for next year is to visit Texas. Not sure all the reasons why yet but I just know I have to go.
Meanwhile off to shop with lots to do and presents to buy.
